April 17, 2018 Three Demonstrations of JS Joint Proposal Adopted by B-DASH 2018:

Japan Sewage Works Agency (JS) is pleased to announce that B-DASH Project 2018* adopted the following three demonstration projects that JS proposed as one of the research collaborators.
Through the demonstrations, JS promotes the practical application of new technologies including reuse of wastewater resources and energy, energy saving, low-carbon of sewerage facilities, functional maintenance/improvement. JS, as a solution partner, encourages R&D and practical application of new technologies that provide solutions for various needs of municipal wastewater works.

Comprehensive gradual sewer diagnosis system using ICT
  • Project Implementer: Collaborative research group of Clearwater OSAKA Corporation, JS, and Osaka City
  • Demonstration Field: Osaka City
  • Summary of Demonstration: The demonstration aims to establish a low-cost, capable system. Following technologies are used for efficient screening and a detail investigation.
    • Deterioration prediction system by big data analysis
    • Data input/accumulation tool using ICT
    • Direct viewing camera for inspection

Efficient energy utilization technology with highly concentrated digestion & energy saving biogas purification
  • Project Implementer: Kobelco Eco-solutions, Co., Ltd, JS, and Fuji City
  • Demonstration Field: Eastern purification center, Fuji city, Shizuoka prefecture
  • Summary of Demonstration: Effient energy recycle/reuse system from sewage sludge is a combined system of the following technologies:
    • Compact methan fermenter
    • Low-power biogas purification device
    • Small-scale hydrogen generation/supply device
    The project aims to demonstrate the treatment performance and the reduction effect of lifecycle costs of the system.

Wastewater treatment operation control-support technology using AI
  • Project Implementer: YASKAWA Electric Corporation, Maezawa Industries, Inc., and JS
  • Summary of Demonstration: The project studies the following two techniques:
    • Wastewater treatment operation control-support technology” that supports deciding control parameter of wastewater treatment facilities using AI technology
    • Image diagnosis technology” that supports diagnosing the treatment status of activated sludge
    The project aims to verify the performance of the two technologies using operation control data and image data of existing facilities and investigate the benefits and possibilities of technology adoption.

*B-DASH Project (Breakthrough by Dynamic Approach in Sewage High Technology Project) is a national project that Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) carries out. The Project aims to accelerate R&D of new technologies and their practical applications, enhance costs reduction in sewage works and the production of renewable energy, and facilitate the global presence of Japanese companies in their water business. In B-DASH Project, all demonstrations are carried out as contract research of National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management (NILIM.)
