May 7, 2019 JS Jointly Proposed Demonstration Adopted by B-DASH Project 2019 Utilizing ICT & AI achieves efficient wastewater treatment and O&M

Japan Sewage Works Agency (JS) is pleased to announce that B-DASH Project*1 2019 adopted the following demonstration project that JS proposes as one of the research collaborators.
Through the demonstrations, JS promotes the practical application of new technologies including reuse of wastewater resources and energy, energy saving, low-carbon of sewerage facilities, functional maintenance/improvement. JS, as a solution partner of sewage works, encourages R&D and practical application of new technologies that provide solutions for various needs of municipal wastewater works.

Demonstration of nutrients removal by ICT & AI control with single tank nitrification/denitrification process

  • Summary of Demonstration:
    Demonstration of single tank nitrification/denitrification process using ICT & AI
    ‡@@ Air flow control adaptable to the inflow load fluctuation and seasonal variation achieves short HRT*2, amd equivalent treated water quality to A2O*3 process.
    ‡A@Automatic calculation/control of discharge pressure of blowers connected with air volume control reduces electric power consumption.

*1. B-DASH Project (Breakthrough by Dynamic Approach in Sewage High Technology Project) is a national project that Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) carries out. The Project aims to accelerate R&D of new technologies and their practical applications, enhance costs reduction in sewage works and the production of renewable energy, and facilitate the global presence of Japanese companies in their water business. In B-DASH Project, all demonstrations are carried out as contract research of National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management (NILIM.)
*2. HRT (hydraulic retention time) is the required time that wastewater and sludge retain inside a biological reactor or settling tank.
*3. A2O (Anaerobic/Anoxic/Oxic) is a nutrients removal process that biologically removes nitrogen and phosphorus at the same time.

Nutrients removal process composed of three basic technologies
