JS, established in November 1972, started as the Sewage Works Center to pool the specialized engineers needed by local governments as shared staff to respond to a shortage of sewerage engineers.

Since then, for 50 years, JS, with municipal governments, has been addressing problem-solving for wastewater management, including constructing 70% of municipal wastewater treatment facilities in Japan.

Today, wastewater projects have faced many issues, such as population decline, aging facilities, violent and frequent disasters, national and municipal governments' financial difficulties, and human resources shortages. Given the difficulties, wastewater projects have challenges promoting retrofitting and healthy finance, securing project sustainability, and improving their service quality as an indispensable public infrastructure for safe and comfortable living.

Wastewater projects are required to contribute to an environmental infrastructure that recycles society through energy creation and recycling from intense sewerage resources.

New business strategies like DX and GX are also essential for wastewater projects. These new points of view revolutionize infrastructures and a whole social system through utilizing data, digital technology, and decarbonization.

The 6th Mid-term Management Plan, which started in 2022, states its policy as "JS, as a solution partner, will promote creating a sewerage foundation of technology, human resource, and information and contribute to creating a good water environment, safe communities, and a sustainable society" and JS will play three roles.

The first role is to propose optimized solutions depending on each municipal need and comprehensively support municipal wastewater projects through facilities retrofitting, O&M, project management, disaster control, and national resilience.

The second role is to aggressively facilitate wide-area and cross-jurisdictional management, PPP/PFI, and the achievement of a decarbonization society.

The third role is to establish the platform for DX promotion, R&D for ICT, technology standards development, international contribution, and HRD for sewerage engineers and contribute to productivity improvement of wastewater projects and social development.

JS, a group of wastewater professionals, has strength in technology, knowledge, management, and mobility against disasters with its rich human resources and achievement history. We will respond to municipal needs with all our power and struggle to achieve healthy wastewater management, a safe and comfortable life, and a sustainable society.

We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding and cooperation.

Warm regards,
(January 2024j
