Welcome
Japan Sewage Works Agency (JS) was founded in 1972 as the Sewage Works Center with a mission to advance the development of underserved sewerage systems by pooling engineers as shared staff. Over the past 50 years, JS has collaborated with local public bodies to address various wastewater issues, contributing to the construction of approximately 70% of municipal wastewater treatment facilities in Japan.
Today's sewerage business encounter numerous challenges, such as population decline, aging infrastructure, frequent and severe natural disasters, financial difficulties at both national and municipal levels, and shortages in human resources. The major challenge is to ensure the sustainability of the sewerage business and to improve the levels of services as an essential infrastructure for peoplefs lives. Additionally, sewerage systems must now play a role as environmental infrastructure in creating a sound material-cycle society by converting sewage into energy and resources. It is also important to ensure sewerage business to incorporate new perspectives, such as digital transformation (DX) and green transformation (GX) initiatives, which aim to transform the entire social system, including the infrastructure sector.
In the sixth Mid-term Management Plan (2022-26), JS has outlined the following vision: gAs a solution partner, JS will promote the creation of a robust sewerage foundation, encompassing technology, human resources, and information, and contribute to forming a healthy water environment, safe communities, and a sustainable society.h Guided by this policy, JS undertakes projects from the perspective of local governments, positioning itself as a solution partner to resolve municipal issues systematically, an innovator driving wastewater business reforms, and a platformer contributing to establishing fundamental sewerage systems, including ICT usage.
As a team of sewerage professionals, JS has honed its technical expertise, proposal-making skills, problem-solving capabilities, and disaster-response proficiency, adaptable to the evolving needs by the times. We commit ourselves to meeting the needs of local governments by maximizing our capabilities to contribute to ensuring sound sewerage management and fostering safe and comfortable lifestyles. We continue to work together to create a sustainable society by harnessing the full potential of sewerage systems to address demands of a new era, such as the efficient use of resources, the conservation of biodiversity, and the realization of a decarbonized society.
