Facing Challenges in Wastewater

ip

Wastewater projects encounter a variety of challenges and requirements, such as energy efficiency and generation, decarbonization by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, collaboration across wide areas and jurisdictions, utilization of wastewater biomass resources, and ensuring project sustainability.

The Japan Sewage Works Agency (JS) has innovated new technologies and actively promoted their practical implementation in contracted projects to offer optimal solutions to these challenges.

We hope that these solutions will assist municipal governments in enhancing their wastewater projects.

Two Pillars of JS' R&D Strategy

JS New Tech Implementation Program

The JS New Tech Implementation Program, which started in 2011, aims to encourage the introduction of new technologies in contract projects based on the application by developers.

As of July 2024, JS has registered 47 technologies as “New Tech*" and introduced 23 to 143 contract municipal wastewater projects. *10 technologies have expired their validity.

B-DASH Project

JS has been collaborating with private enterprises and municipalities in the B-DASH (Breakthrough by Dynamic Approach in Sewage High Technology) Project.?

Joining the B-DASH Project promotes the adoption of demonstrated technologies by utilizing published guidelines.

As of July 2024, the B-DASH Project has adopted 28 projects JS joins, and 23 have been completed.
